In Memoriam

In Loving Memory of Sharon Alkus

In loving memory of Sharon Alkus, age 71, the Foundation Homes family mourns the loss of a cherished team member, who passed away unexpectedly due to a sudden stroke in June 2023.

Sharon was on the verge of commemorating her distinguished 10-year tenure with the company, a testament to her unwavering commitment and dedication.

An older woman holds a young girl who is pointing at fish tanks in a pet store. The tanks are lit with blue lights, and the woman looks on as the girl reaches toward the glass.

Beyond her professional role as an Accounting Coordinator,

Sharon held a special place in her heart as the mother of Darcy Alkus Barrow, one of the co-founders of Foundation Homes.

Born and raised in Southern California, with much of her adult life spent in Malibu, Sharon embodied the essence of a true California girl. She pursued her education at San Jose State, graduating with a business degree, and also earned a minor in real estate.

Her love for the state was evident in her affinity for the beach, all bodies of water, animals, ranches, and deserts. Additionally, Sharon’s talent as a photographer was recognized through her published work, including winning the cover photo for California Country Magazine and receiving accolades at various county fairs.

A woman with long blonde hair stands indoors against a beige wall, wearing a black shirt and white pants. She is holding a glass in her right hand and looking at the camera with a slight smile.

With a wicked sense of humor, Sharon enjoyed nurturing her pets and garden, playing cards, and raising a toast with a glass (or two!) of chardonnay.

The chapters of her life included over a decade of marriage in the 80s and 90s, resulting in four children and later the joy of being a grandmother to four grandchildren.

Additionally, she spent over two decades as a partner to the late soap star Beau Kazer, together embracing the ranch-life experience (between visits to the set of The Young and the Restless).

During her time at Foundation Homes, Sharon diligently safeguarded the property management accounts of our clients. Her role involved meticulous oversight, questioning vendors, scrutinizing bills, troubleshooting ACH issues, and, for clients with out-of-state taxes, personally verifying each payment to ensure accuracy.

She took great pride in her work and cherished the opportunity to collaborate with and professionally support her daughter.

Above all, Sharon’s most significant role was that of a loving and devoted “Grammy” to her grandchildren, particularly her granddaughter, with whom she shared countless hours on FaceTime, indulging in imaginative stories.

A hummingbird with green and gray feathers hovers near a cluster of pink tubular flowers, using its long beak to feed; the background shows more pink flowers out of focus.

"I think the thing I will remember most about my mom,"

says Darcy, “is how steadfastly, quietly, cheerfully – no matter what the season of our life – she was always in our corner.”

Five people pose outdoors near a large, curved tree branch. Three are sitting or leaning on the branch, while two stand in front of it. The group is surrounded by greenery and trees.

Sharon’s love radiates through her grandchildren every single day,

a testament to the profound impact she had on their lives. Her contributions to the company and the team over the years will always be remembered and appreciated.

Sharon will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts, and her absence is deeply felt.

Thank you to those who have reached out to express condolences and to share their appreciation of Sharon’s contributions over the years. She would have appreciated the recognition.
